Form And Structure. Art And Architecture. Sunday, May 14, 2006 2:00 PM $15 Noted architects competed fiercely for their chance to design for the dead. Visitors will view many of their works of art, as well as learn how to "read" a monument for clues to the type of person buried there. The tour will also examine changing tastes in grave markers over the past two centuries. Guide: Thomas H. Keels, author of Philadelphia Graveyards and Cemeteries
Memorial Day Celebration Sunday, May 28, 2006 12:00 PM Free Our annual recreation of the historic Grand Army Meade Post #1 Decoration Day service, first celebrated on May 30, 1868, will again take place. This year, the event will include a special ceremony and internment for human remains exhumed from an historic burial ground found underneath a Philadelphia street corner several years ago. We invite you to attend this commemorative event, to help us pay tribute to our once-forgotten "fellow citizens." A reception in the Friends' House will follow. Guide: Andy Waskie, Ph.D., Temple University professor, and Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery board member
