Noted architects competed fiercely for their chance to design for the dead. Visitors will view many of their works of art, as well as learn how to "read" a monument for clues to the type of person buried there. The tour will also examine changing tastes in grave markers over the past two centuries.

Our annual recreation of the historic Grand Army Meade Post #1 Decoration Day service, first celebrated on May 30, 1868, will again take place. This year, the event will include a special ceremony and internment for human remains exhumed from an historic burial ground found underneath a Philadelphia street corner several years ago. We invite you to attend this commemorative event, to help us pay tribute to our once-forgotten "fellow citizens." A reception in the Friends' House will follow.
